Jørgen Kruuse A/S installs miniload warehouse from Moving
Jørgen Kruuse – a leading company in the market for veterinary products – is building a new head office, warehouse and distribution centre, concentrating all its activities in Langeskov in Fyn, Denmark. The focus has been on automation and on introducing ergonomically- optimized work processes for its staff.
Jørgen Kruuse is Scandinavia’s largest wholesaler and distributor of veterinary products, supplying veterinary surgeons worldwide. The company has a history going back more than 110 years; and throughout that time, the warehousing and distribution activities - along with the head office - have been located in and around Marslev.
But as a consequence of its ambitious growth strategy, the company has begun building a new head office, warehouse and distribution centre in Langeskov. The total area is 14,400m2 - a substantial part of which will be devoted to production and warehousing facilities.
One important aspect of the new project was the decision that a substantial part of the internal logistics should be automated. Kruuse therefore entered into a contract with Moving as a turnkey supplier of an automated warehouse- picking- and sorting-system that will be ready for operation in early 2008.
The system
The system consists of a highbay warehouse for c.26 000 plastic totes which are automatically stored and retrieved by a number of automated miniload cranes.
Goods are received, unpacked and transferred to totes at dedicated workstations. All items are registered with respect to article number and quantity before being transported automatically by the conveyor system to the miniload warehouse.
When items are requested, the totes are brought to multi-functional, ergonomically designed workstations where the items are picked directly from the totes into delivery boxes. The operator receives all relevant information regarding product, quantity to be picked and packing information from a touch screen at the workstation. The Moving PCC (a server-based WCS) controls picking not only from the miniload warehouse, but also from the chill warehouse and from the zone for hazardous items.
Boxes ready for delivery are transported automatically from the pick stations to the dispatch area. Here they are sorted into marshalling lanes according to the barcode on the combined delivery and packing list on the box.
Installation began late September 2007 and the system will be taken into operation early in 2008.
