Palletizing

Placing goods units on pallets is called palletizing, and removing goods units from a pallet is called depalletizing.

KNAPP-Moving develops conveyor and palletizing systems as turnkey installations or systems. Using standard modules as a basis, a complete palletizing system, or parts of one, can be tailored to customer requirements. Systems are intended for fully or semi-automatic palletizing of boxes, trays, tote bins, sacks, etc, on whole, half or quarter-pallets. In addition to pallets in wood or plastic as load carriers, there are also corrugated board containers and loading sheets. KNAPP-Moving also has a function for automatically or semi-automatically creating mixed loads. This often applies to goods such as consumer packaging.

There are two types of palletizer:

• Layer palletizer
• Robot palletizer

A layer palletizer can be situated directly after a production line or after a buffer system. It offers high capacity and is uncomplicated.

A robot palletizer is located immediately after a production line. It can handle from one to five articles or types of goods without a preceding buffer system on different pallets. It is a complicated piece of equipment that requires specialised knowledge. Investment in a palletizing system is usually a profitable move. Efficiency increases and manpower is freed up. Heavy and monotonous work stages are eliminated.

Automatic palletizing is in most cases superior to manual palletizing and offers more benefits, such as

• Lower costs, especially in multi-shift set ups.
• Higher quality, due to more even, more stable pallet loads.
• Increased capacity and efficiency. Palletizing can be carried out with minimum manning.
• Greater flexibility. An unlimited number of loading patterns can be pre-programmed.
• Better ergonomics - fewer work-related injuries
