Production

Materials handling in production is the internal handling and transfer of materials.

The preconditions are that the material is identified, addressed and sorted, so that it can be transferred to the intended place. This destination may be a buffer in the process, utilisation, intermediate store or a place between different production stages.

The sender could be stores, goods reception or a production unit in the relevant manufacturing process. The recipient could be stores, goods dispatch or a production unit. Transport within production can be carried out by conveyor systems, fork-lift trucks or AGVs.
