Motor Vehicle Industry
The motor vehicle industry is characterised by shrinking lead times in product and production development. Manufacturing is executed just-in time and is becoming increasingly order-driven to avoid resource-intensive stock handling. This raises the requirements for reliable deliveries from subcontractors and efficient handling in the entire production chain.
The period from order to delivery is getting shorter, which also reduces the margins for any unforeseen stoppages in production. Considerable reliability is required in all parts of a production system in order to avoid increased costs for non-deliveries or late deliveries.
Ramping up of new production is becoming rarer. New production is to reach full volume as rapidly as possible.
The short lead times shrink planning time in product and production development, which sets high requirements, not least for suppliers of conveyor and storage systems.
When new, large installations are to be set up, the project requires strict control, both to keep it within the time margins and to ensure that installation work can be done during weekends and holiday periods when production is at a standstill.
As production in general is carried out in several shifts, the equipment is subjected to hard wear and tear. This demands that the equipment is of high quality. In addition, availability must be high, so service requirements must be minimised in order to avoid production stoppages. Equipment should be fitted with good, proven technology, and be robust and reliable.
In most cases, equipment is customised. Moving's basic range can usually be utilised, but certain parts are modified or manufactured according to the customer's wishes and requirements. Within the motor vehicle industry there is generally a high level of knowledge about how storage and conveyor systems are to be designed. A system that satisfies customer's needs is worked out in co-operation with Moving.
